Donald Trump: ‘I Didn’t Know’ Kamala Harris ‘Was Black Until a Few Years Ago Until She Happened to Turn Black’

As a seasoned journalist who has covered numerous political events and interviewed countless public figures over the years, I find it deeply concerning to witness such blatant disregard for decency and respect in a public forum like the NABJ Annual Convention. The former President’s behavior during this Q&A session was not only unprofessional but also racially insensitive and divisive.

On a Wednesday, I engaged in a question-and-answer session at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Annual Convention and Career Fair in Chicago. During this discussion, I made remarks that some may perceive as racially charged, directed towards my Democratic opponent in a particularly heated exchange.

Rachel Scott (senior congressional correspondent for ABC News), Harris Faulkner (anchor for Fox News), and Kadia Goba (political reporter at Semafor) led the conversation as the moderators.

At the gathering, Trump encountered modest approval with occasional clapping and discernible jeers from the crowd. The program, initially set for midday, commenced around quarter past one.

In a recent conversation I found myself part of, I posed a question directly to Trump: “Given your past use of such language, why should African-American voters have faith in you?”

Trump replied, “I’ve rarely been posed a question in such an unfriendly tone before.” He added, “The first question didn’t even include a simple greeting like ‘Hello,’ or ‘How are you?'”

Trump then asked Scott, “Are you with ABC? Because I think they’re a fake news network.”

The following query will touch upon some contemporary remarks made by conservatives and Republicans, who referred to Vice President Kamala Harris, the groundbreaking first Black and Asian American woman to occupy this position, as an “affirmative action appointee.”

“Trump stated that he’s had a long-standing acquaintance with her, not a close personal relationship, and this person has consistently identified as Indian. He mentioned that he became aware of her racial identity much later in time, when it changed to Black, although he now perceives her as identifying as both Black and Indian.”

Throughout the panel, Trump continued to berate Scott on multiple occasions.

Before the discussion began, NABJ collaborated with PolitiFact to verify facts instantly as they were being discussed.

The decision sparked criticism and opposition from NABJ members and officials, culminating in the co-chair’s resignation amidst a storm of controversy surrounding Donald Trump’s involvement in the conference.

Ken Lemon, NABJ President, clarified in a recent video that the invitation extended to presidential candidates, including those he had previously invited this time around, was not an endorsement. Every year during each presidential election cycle, they invite candidates or nominees to attend, as stated clearly in their releases.
