In Destiny 2, the gun renowned for dealing the most damage to bosses’ hearts has been given a substantial reduction in power by Bungie. The nerf to Still Hunt, the sniper rifle that transforms into a Golden Gun when wielded by Hunters with the Celestial Nighthawk Exotic helmet, significantly decreases its previously massive damage output. This change might open up opportunities for new strategies to tackle some of the game’s most formidable enemies, such as The Witness.
In their update 8.0.0.8 patch notes, published today, Bungie mentioned a noteworthy modification. Although most entries concern minor bug resolutions, one line affects those engaging in advanced activities such as raids and dungeons profoundly.

As a long-time player of this game, I must admit that I was taken aback when I heard about Still Hunt, the new sniper rifle introduced in the Final Shape expansion. For the last decade, Golden Gun has been the go-to Super ability for Hunters, dealing massive damage to even the toughest enemies. It’s a feeling of power and satisfaction that comes from mastering this move.
The Golden Gun, an Exotic weapon in Hunter class, is often used together with the Celestial Nighthawk. This helmet enhances a Super ability that typically fires three Golden Gun bullets at once into a single powerful shot. With the addition of Celestial Nighthawk, the effect of Still Hunt’s Golden Gun becomes even more amplified.
The powerful builds, such as Golden Gun / Celestial Nighthawk / Still Hunt setup, leave little room for alternative player choices. Their effectiveness overshadows other possibilities, making one wonder why choose any other build? Bungie disfavors such situations in the game’s meta and may allow it to persist briefly for enjoyment but eventually adjusts the balance.
From a devoted fan’s perspective, I’d like to share some insights about Still Hunt in Destiny 2. Although its impact will be reduced by one-third with the introduction of Celestial Nighthawk, don’t dismiss it just yet. This gun has been a staple for Hunter builds since the game’s inception, and while you might not require Still Hunt for that build specifically, it remains a solid option.
